Garies to Kamieskroon – Another day of hills and heat Posted on 8 March 2010 We got out of Garies just after 5am this morning and could not get away soon enough. It was still dark when we left and just as well, we had a climb of 7km from where we left town, we started at an altitude of about 240 meters and by breakfast time we reached almost 800 meters. It was great to get such an early start, it is so much easier and more enjoyable to cycle before the sun is out. We managed to get some good distance in but once the sun showed its face, it was very hot again. We reached Kamieskroon by lunchtime and had the customary ice cold Coke at the hotel. I think I am becoming addicted to cold coke, just the thought of a coke once you reach your destination is enough to get you through the last hour of cycling everyday. The hotel here has a great campsite which is very clean and tidy and the proprietor is a very friendly and helpful man, I can really recommend this hotel to anybody. Tonight we will be in bed early and tomorrow morning we will be taking on the road to Springbok. Hopefully we will have the wind in our favour for a change!
