Arriving at Victoria Falls

Posted on 3 January 2010

The road from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls is good…long, straight and in good condition mostly. Teak forest stands on either side of the road, and the grand masters of the sky – cumulonimbus clouds – are spectacular.

As I approached Vic Falls, a massive thunderstorm came down. I opened my windows, driving fast through the rain, loving the smell. It was great. Apparently there is a word for the smell of rain on dry earth…”petrichor”. I’ve got video of it, but the internet is really slow up here, so I’ll try upload when I can.

I stopped to take some pics at the entrance to Vic Falls, and these three young guys emerged from the bush to fleece me of my kudu droewors…I was only too happy to see them enjoy it. That’s Nethias Sibanda, Tino Shoko and Tinashe Ndiwene, left to right.
