Six lions killed by Kenyan herders

Wildlife officials have confirmed that Kenyan herders killed six lions after the pride attacked 11 goats and a dog.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 13 May, a day after the world’s oldest lion was speared to death. Loonkito, the lion, was found on the outskirts of Amboseli National Park, wandering into a livestock pen.

The Kenya Wildlife Services said, ‘A total of 10 lions have been killed in the Amboseli ecosystem since last week.’ Officials have met with community members to address the incidents.

‘The discussions centered on exploring ways to minimise the risk of human-wildlife conflict, including developing early warning systems to alert communities to the presence of wildlife in their vicinity.

‘The KWS officials engaged the community in an effort to find lasting solutions that will address the conflict while protecting both human lives and wildlife.’

Under growing pressure from cities expanding into hunting and ancient migration grounds. wildlife have been straying into Kenyan human habitats more and more reported News24.
