Statistics South Africa shared that Cape Town saw a 7% increase in job gains compared to last quarter.

Cape Town’s Premier Alan Wind told Bloomberg that ‘the domestic tourism industry was the main driver of employment, followed by the financial and services industries.’ Cape Town welcomed 191 direct international flights weekly throughout the month of December and saw 1 million tourists through their airport. 158% higher than in December 2021.

On his Facebook page, he shared that their ‘hard work in helping to create jobs is paying off! The latest job stats for the Western Cape are very encouraging. The latest quarterly figures show [their] province recorded the largest increase in employment nationally quarter-on-quarter with an additional 167 000 employed people in the WC. A lot of work still needs to be done to offer all [their] residents hope.’

News24 reported that the DA has managed to bolster business confidence throughout the region and has created a province that is more ‘conducive to job creation.’
