Tiger still on the loose in south Joburg Posted by David Henning on 17 January 2023 The search for the 8-year-old tiger, Sheba, in Johanessburg is still ongoing after it escaped its enclosure on a small holding in the Walkerville area. It escaped its enclosure on Saturday night, 14 January after someone allegedly cut the fence of its enclosure. Since escaping, the tiger is reported to have killed two dogs, a deer, a pig and injured a 37-year-old man who is being treated in a hospital. The tiger was last seen at a watering hole in the area via drone thermal imaging on Monday evening. Tracking teams on foot discovered her paw prints around the watering hole and its scent was picked up, Times Live reports. ‘She was very close but the bush was too thick and risky for them to enter,’ Walker’s Fruit Farm community policing forum member, Gresham Mandy, said. ‘ The team left out meat laced with a tranquiliser to lure the tiger to eat, hoping it would make it drowsy and easier to capture. This was the last reported sighting of the tiger. It asked the residents of Walkerville and its surroundings to inform it immediately by calling its emergency number on 083 292 5862, if the tiger was spotted.
