All flights across the United States were grounded as of 8 am on Wednesday morning due to a computer outage.

Twitter is alive as everyone involved shares what they know about the situation.

At 7:20 am (US Eastern Time Zone) on Wednesday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) first mentioned the issue, saying that they were ‘working to restore its Notice to Air Missions System. (They) are performing final validation checks and reloading the system.’

The White House press secretary tweeted that ‘the President has been briefed by the Secretary of Transportation this morning on the FAA system outage. There is no evidence of a cyberattack at this point, but the President directed DOT (Department of Transport) to conduct a full investigation into the causes.’

According to Flight Aware, a flight-tracking app, more than 3 500 flights were delayed and more than 420 flights were cancelled.

FAA’s most recent update is that ‘the FAA is making progress in restoring its Notice to Air Missions system following an overnight outage. Departures are resuming at Newark Airport and Atlanta Airport due to air traffic congestion in those areas. (They) expect departures to resume at other airports at 9 am ET.

This is a developing story.
