Digital Nomad Calculator makes choosing a work destination easier Posted by Olerato Ramafsi on 10 January 2023 Professional Nomadic couple Goats on the Road have created a Digital Nomad Calculator which tells you whether you meet the requirements to remotely work in a certain country. Image: Vivek Kumar The rise of remote working is upon us and the opportunities to work freely in different countries are growing weekly. As 2023 commences, Spain and Portugal are the latest countries to offer ‘digital nomad visas‘ with breaks and perks designed to encourage enthusiastic and talented workers to come sample what the Iberian peninsula has to offer. Although the offer remains open to everyone and anyone there’s still a range of requirements that a person must reach in order to be granted the visa and access to the country. The nomadic visa requirements differ from country to country. Many countries will require you to show that you have a fixed amount in your bank account already, while other countries will want proof of employment or regular freelance work over the last six months or year. But the biggest factor that many people will need to overcome will be the need to earn a minimum salary, which can make the whole process of choosing a suitable destination daunting. This is where the Digital Nomad Calculator comes in, to make life easier for potential nomadic workers. The calculator doesn’t guarantee your visa will be accepted, but it will give you a quick and easy answer as to whether you’re even eligible to work there. All you’ll need to do is enter your salary in dollars, submit the answer and wait to be presented with a full list of countries you’re eligible for, with links to get any extra information you might need about nomad’ing in that specific country. Portugal, Germany and Colombia have the lowest earning requirements with all three countries demanding you earn less than $1000 a month. The Caribbean on the other hand proves to be the most demanding, with the Cayman Islands, for example, stipulating $8333 a month or $100 000 as a nomadic visa requirement. There are some countries with very understanding rules such as Bermuda, Curacao, Saint Lucia, Seychelles and Sri Lanka which only require you to be able to earn enough money to support yourself.
