USAID commits $75 million to support sustainable tourism in Africa

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has committed $75 million to assist safari tour operators across Africa as part of its newly launched project to protect African landscapes and bolster the tourism sector.

This is the first continent-wide investment agreement under USAID’s new Africa Trade and Investment program, an effort to promote sustainable tourism and protect African landscapes.

‘The Fund will invest $75 million to assist safari tour operators across Africa,’ USAID said in a statement. ‘This will benefit 44,000 community members and generate $40 million in annual revenue for conservation landscape owners, managers, and communities.’

This fund will work with partners in Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia.
