A new study has the answers ‘That flag means that there is a shark in close proximity to the swimmers and should you go into the water you will be swimming at your own risk.’ Stopforth also shared images of a great white shark seen the day before in Hartenbos, not far from the shore. Beachgoers are strongly encouraged to heed shark warnings and stay out of the water when lifeguards report shark sightings.
