With heavy rainfall across the interior and northern parts of the country, flooding has been reported in some regions and many dams and reservoirs are filling up.

Some parts of the country have had as much as 100mm of rain overnight, reports Gauteng Weather.

Residents are warned to heed flood warnings in areas with heavy rainfall, and take extra precautions when driving on wet roads.

Many dams have exceeded their capacity, resulting in sluice gates being opened in an attempt to prevent flooding.

Seven sluices have been opened for Hartebeespoort Dam.

The Vaal Dam also exceeded capacity this last weekend, and eight sluices were opened.
