Flock to Kruger in early 2023 for an incredible birding weekend Posted by Jordyn Johnson on 10 November 2022 The West Rand Region Honorary Rangers is ready to host its much-anticipated birding weekends in Kruger National Park (KNP) again between 14 January and 23 February 2023. Picture: Jordyn Johnson The West Rand Region is a volunteer group of rangers who take on duties mainly in KNP and Marakele National Park. They assist in the maintenance of the national reserves and host exciting wildlife activities. Whether you’re a full-scale twitcher or a wannabe-birder, this event should be on your calendar. Picture: Jordyn Johnson Included in these weekends are two catered dinners, 8-12 hours of game and birding drives, and the chance to spend time with birding experts. Beginner birders also have the opportunity to interact with more experienced birders. Attendees will get access to normally restricted areas of the park and ‘normal gate times at the camp no longer apply, with drives leaving at three or four in the morning,’ says SANParks. All proceeds go towards conservation, and through the birders, KNP is able to collect data on the bird species in the park. They also get the chance to expose and educate more people on the benefits and enjoyment of birding.
