When it rains it pours in semi-arid Kgalagadi

Posted by Tsoku Maela on 3 November 2022

Kgalagadi, located in the Northern Cape, translates to ‘Land of the thirst’ and it is no surprise that something as bountiful for others such as rain is a cause for celebration for members of its community.

The semi-arid region lies in a summer rainfall area, and sporadic rain occurs from October to April averaging 150mm/5.9inch in the southwest to 350mm/13.8inch in the northeast.

A member of the Facebook group Kgalagadi Sightings shared images of this year’s rainfall in the region. Take a look.
