Air China looking to resume flights to Johannesburg Posted by Tsoku Maela on 3 November 2022 With Chinese airlines looking to resume their footprint in the Asia-Pacific, Air China is planning to expand its international offering in possibly six months. aiming for over 140 routes, where Johannesburg may be included. The proposed new routes are as follows: Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) to Johannesburg (JNB) Chongqing (CKG) to Ho Chi Minh (SGN) Chongqing (CKG) to Budapest (BUD) Picture: Rancheng Zhu on Unsplash Chinese travel is still sitting behind its pre-pandemic capacity, but with ambitions to drive tourism back to the country two other airlines have joined in the expansion, namely China Southern (CZ), and China Eastern (MU) respectively. ‘The civil aviation regulator is working hard to restore international routes, and it is an important way for China to connect with the world’ said Zheng Hongfeng, CEO of industry information provider VariFlight, to Global Times.
