Flights cancelled at Cape Town International due to lack of jet fuel Posted by Olerato Ramafsi on 3 October 2022 Jet fuel is running low at Cape Town International Airport as bad weather delays the shipment of jet fuel. Picture: Getaway Gallery The fuel was supposed to have arrived on 25 September and the delay has resulted in Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) resorting to drastic measures. They have since reduced the amount of fuel available from Cape Town International Airport in an effort to avoid a total outage. International flights are encouraged to add an extra stop to refuel while domestic flights are now limited to 50% of their usual fuel uplift. The news resulted in United Airlines cancelling its round-the-world flight leaving from Cape Town which was scheduled for 2 October, stating they had to cancel the Newark to Cape Town flight due to lack of fuel. KLM‘s KL598 return flight from Cape Town was cancelled on 2 October but KL597 is still scheduled to land in Cape Town on 3 October. According to Flight Radar 24 ‘British Airways has also been forced to reroute its daily service from Cape Town to London Heathrow on Sunday, but the airline says it will now operate its BA58 flight as scheduled.’ Travellers are encouraged to check websites for more details amid this jet fuel crisis.
