Update on newborn rhino and mom at Care for Wild Posted by Anita Froneman on 19 August 2022 A few days ago, the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary excitedly announced the birth of the third calf in their care. The 9-year-old white rhino cow Olive, gave birth to a male calf on the morning of 11 August. Watch a rhino calf being born Olive was orphaned in 2013 after poachers killed her mother. She was just 10 months old when she was rescued and brought to Care for Wild. The Sanctuary shared some updates, and it seems the little guy is stealing hearts left, right and centre. ‘Again captured by Olive’s guard, this video is a small glimpse into the world of our newest rhino calf,’ they said on Facebook. ‘Olive is such a fantastic mother. Here you can see how she gently lifts her leg to allow her calf better access to the milk he is searching for. Listen carefully for his little squeaks and suckling noises!’ ‘One thing is certain, Olive’s little boy is truly a little milk monster!’ they added. ‘He drinks before he sleeps and after he wakes, he drinks before and after playing. Sometimes he falls asleep mid-suckle, wakes up, and starts drinking again! This little boy isn’t going to remain little for long.
