Pet-friendly destinations in the Drakensberg and Midlands Posted on 18 August 2022 If you’re planning a trip to KwaZulu-Natal’s interior and you want to include your dog (they’re part of the family, after all), look no further. Here are some of our favourite pet-friendly attractions and accommodation spots in the Drakensberg and KZN Midlands. Pet-friendly attractions Giants Castle Pet-Friendly Slackpacking Trail: a two-night luxury walking excursion with Antbear Lodge. The Bierfassl: a quaint Austrian-themed pub in the Midlands that serves hearty meals, catering for all tastes. Pets are welcome. Karkloof Falls: a spectacular dog-friendly area with a waterfall just about 15km from Howick. There is also a picnic area. Cattle Paths: a number of walking trails and a little pizza restaurant between Estcourt and Weenen. The trails can be walked or mountain biked and pets are welcome too. Piggly Wiggly: a restaurant and farm stall in the Natal Midlands with lots of arts and craft outlets. If you pop by on a Saturday nice and early you can do the Park Run too. Stay here Dragon Peaks: offers camping where you can also take your dog. Day visitors with pets are also welcome including at their Dragons Rest Restaurant if you want a bite to eat. Antbear Eco Lodge: with a cosy fireplace, jacuzzi bath and king-size double bed, this romantic spot offers pet-friendly mountain and garden view suites with fenced-in gardens. Ardmore Guest Garm: a 150 ha organic timber farm situated in the Champagne Valley. There are self-catering and dinner bed and breakfast options, and your furry friend is welcome.
