Caroline’s Red Wine Review returns after two year absence Posted by David Henning on 28 June 2022 Covid took many things away from us for some time and for those who didn’t stock up their wine rack, South Africa’s lockdown took away even more. Fortunately, we have full access to wine once again, as well as the return of Caroline’s Red Wine Review 2022, the world-class showcase of the crème-de-la-crème of Cape red wine presented by Cape Town’s legendary Caroline Rillema. Caroline Rillema Taking place on 28 July at the V&A Waterfront, only the top 90 accolade-achieving winemakers are invited to participate in Caroline’s Red Wine Review held annually for almost three decades, with the exception of the past two years due to the Covid pandemic. Each participating winemaker is given the opportunity to present just one wine – their very best red – on the night. The winemaker selection criteria include 5 stars in Platter’s South African Wine Guide, trophy and platinum awards at top-tier competitions, 96+ scores awarded by Tim Atkin, UK Master of Wine, as well as prestigious accolades across various other platforms. Caroline’s team also handpick wines they consider world-class that may not have entered any competition or been submitted for ratings by well-known wine commentators. Being at the centre of a world-famous wine-growing region, Cape Town has always held legendary status along with the people who make it all happen. Caroline has earned her place as one of these legends. Known internationally as the Cape Town purveyor of fine wine to the cognoscenti since 1997, her eponymous stores in Sea Point and Tokai, Caroline’s Fine Wine Cellar, are the place to go for the very best and most exciting wine. Join Caroline and the Cape’s leading red winemakers for an unmissable evening of walk-around wine tasting with fellow wine lovers, collectors, sommeliers and prestigious producers. Upon arrival you will be given a crystal tasting glass with your programme that enables you to walk around at your leisure, tasting and discussing wine with them. Caroline’s Red Wine review is an incredible opportunity to meet the passionate people behind the labels, an opportunity usually not available to most people who enjoy wine.
