St Helena to remove quarantine requirements Posted by Taylah Strauss on 24 June 2022 St Helena’s Health Services Directorate intends to lift the quarantine requirement upon entry to the tropical island, now that the country is at ‘an optimum stage to move forward with ‘Living with COVID-19’. The announcement came on June 21, but no date for the lifting of the requirements has been confirmed. Omicron is currently the dominant variant internationally and is also the least severe or harmful, though it has high transmissibility. The island had a highly successful vaccination programme, with over 97% of the population vaccinated. The current programme covers booster shots and includes the entire general populace aged five and up, those in care facilities and those considered at high risk to contract the virus. ‘Recognising that many of us living and working on St Helena for the past two years have not been exposed to all that the pre and post-COVID world entails, during the transition period, St Helena Government will be providing explanatory advice via the local media and other communication channels,’ the press release reads.
