Cape Town International Airport voted Best and Cleanest in Africa Posted by Taylah Strauss on 20 June 2022 The results for the 2022 World Airport Awards are in – and three African airports have made the list. The ceremony was held at Passenger Terminal Expo in France on 16 June. The awards are considered highly esteemed accolades in the airport industry, based on surveys and assessments independent of any influence from the airport itself. Surveys assess various factors, such as layover time, cleanliness, availability of facilities, commodities and so forth. Cape Town International Airport was named the Best Airport, as well as having the Best Airport Staff, and being the Cleanest Airport in Africa. King Shaka International Airport was named Best Regional Airport in Africa. The InterContinental Hotel in OR Tambo International Airport was named Best Airport Hotel in Africa. Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban’s airports were all included in the world’s top 100 airports, with Cape Town International placing 49th (down from 33rd in 2021,) King Shaka at 59th (down from 52nd in 2021,) and OR Tambo coming in at 71st (down from 54th in 2021).
