SANParks to address crime at Kruger’s Numbi Gate

South African National Parks (SANParks) held an intervention meeting to address security issues at Numbi Gate which has had its fair share of crime recently.

An attempted hijacking of a single mother and her two children in January 2022 resulted in one child being shot and hospitalised.

According to The Lowvelder, this led to R1 million in revenue lost through cancellations following the incident. There have been six confirmed Numbi Road attacks in the past eight months.

SANParks security intervention meeting was held at the Mdluli Safari Lodge on 9 May, which was attended by regional and section rangers, tourism safety officers, tour operators and two security companies.

SANParks commented that there are already tourism safety officers at the boom gate, with the police increasing their movements throughout the day, and security companies patrolling at night. No crime has been reported since the intervention started.
