Get excited for the next Robot Racing event at Killarney

The next Robot Racing event, powered by the City of Cape Town at Killarney will be on Wednesday 23 March from 6:30 to 10:00 pm.

Robot Racing is one of the purest forms of motorsport that there is. Two cars line up at a red robot, the robot goes green and whoever reaches the finishing line first, 402 metres away, is the winner.

This is the closest you can get to street racing without breaking the law. Racing at night also amps up the excitement and drama. With up to 150 participants and hundreds of spectators to cheer them on, the atmosphere is electric.

Robot Racing started in 2016 as a joint effort between the Western Province Motor Club at Killarney and the City of Cape Town, to get street racers off the public roads and into a safe and controlled environment where they can enjoy their cars without endangering other road users and the public at large.

The air is filled with the sound of highly-tuned engines and thick with tyre smoke – you can almost smell the adrenalin!

The gate fee is R70 for adults and free for children under the age of 12 and there is no extra charge to race.

If you want to participate, just remember to bring a roadworthy car, a crash helmet, a long-sleeved top and long trousers, and your current South African driving licence.

Tasty takeaways (including halaal) and ice-cold drinks are available in the spectator area, so bring the family and make it a fun evening for everyone to enjoy.
