American cruise liner runs aground off Dominican Republic Posted by Taylah Strauss on 15 March 2022 Shortly after leaving Puerto Plata’s port and setting sail to the US Virgin Islands, the Norwegian Escape – an American cruise liner owned by the company Norwegian Cruise Line – has run aground off the north coast of the Dominican Republic. Hernandez added that they were already working to free the vessel: ‘The tide in this area rises about 1 metre at four in the morning (8am GMT). We think that with the high tide, we can get the boat out of its current position.’ He also stated that there was no current risk to the 3000 passengers and 1 600 crew members on board.
