Isn’t it time for you to do the tourism happy dance again? Travel is getting smoother, cheaper and undoubtedly more straightforward. If your yearning for wanderlust needs to be scratched, Victoria Falls is the ideal destination this April. Whatever your travel style, be it a family road trip, a solo adventure, a family road trip, solo adventure or luxury weekend escape, you’ll be tempted by these options in Africa’s Eden. However, be honest with us, could you pinpoint Victoria Falls on the map? Vic falls as the locals would say, is a shared resource between Zimbabwe and Zambia. More water flows over Victoria Falls than any other waterfall on the planet, making for a fantastic spectacle during the Zambezi River’s peak flow in April. The thunderous roar of cascading water can be heard well before you arrive to the park gates. Low Season Rates April is typically not considered a busy time for the Victoria Falls region, which means that you can often take advantage of off-peak specials in Victoria Falls town, Zimbabwe and Livingstone in Zambia if you avoid holiday weekends. You’ll also enjoy a more intimate experience on safari or at any of the many Victoria Falls local attractions. Weather in April The weather surrounding Victoria Falls is lovely and warm in April. Mornings are pleasantly cool for safaris and adventurous escapes, whereas the days are ideal for lounging by the pool or scavenging through local markets for the perfect souvenirs. You may experience a few short-lived rain showers earlier in April, but these will wane towards the end of the month. Zambezi Food and Music Festival – 16 April The first of what will undoubtedly be an annual event takes place in the heart of Livingstone, Zambia, over the Easter long weekend. You can expect a plethora of delicious food options, great musical acts and loads of entertainment. Picture: Supplied / libanx95 Zambezi Bike Festival – 15 to 18 April Whether you have just learned to ride on two wheels or you’re a dedicated athlete, the Zambezi Bike Festival promises to have rides for everyone. The first day welcomes every type of cycle, be it a unicycle, bicycle, tandem bike or one with training wheels still attached. Day two encompasses numerous mountain bike routes, whereas the third day takes full advantage of how easy it is to visit three countries in one day. The Tri-nation Bike Challenge is a 210 km course stretching from Zambia, over the Victoria Falls Bridge to Zimbabwe, through the Zambezi National Park to Botswana and then back via the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia. Along the way, the aim is to raise awareness for the elephants that share this gorgeous habitat and the need to up recycling efforts in the region. Victoria Falls Enduro – 31 April to 1 May Rev your engines for wildlife at the Victoria Falls Enduro where proceeds go towards the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust, The Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit and the Victoria Falls Community Animal Health & Welfare Centre. In addition to an exciting motorcycle race along the Batoka Gorge, highlights include a gala evening with fabulous food and entertainment. Contact [email protected] for more information. Victoria Falls Carnival – 29 April to 2 May The tenth instalment of the epic Victoria Falls Carnival is certain to be the best yet! Registered acts to date include South African DJ Maphorisa and Master KG of the viral Jerusalema hit. In addition, reigning King and Queen of Amapiano – Kabza De Small and Sha Sha are sure to have you up dancing, with more artists continuing to be announced. The Electric Safari Experience of Saturday night is not to be missed, and you’ll then roll into the Secret Picnic Bush Party on Sunday.
