Kulula and British Airways grounded by Aviation Authority

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has grounded all Comair flights in South Africa. This includes Kulula and British Airways flights. Comair said that the grounding is expected to last for 24 hours.

A statement released on Saturday by the SACAA said that the decision was made following an investigation into the ‘recent spate of safety incidents at the Operator’.

Comair confirmed the news but snapped back at the SACAA, saying that there is ‘no justification for the suspension’.

‘Comair aims to resume its British Airways (operated by Comair) and kulula.com schedule by 12pm tomorrow [13 March], subject to SA Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) approval,’ the statement added.

‘We continue to engage constructively with the CAA and are working hard to provide the CAA with the additional information it requires,’ said Comair CEO Glenn Orsmond.

Passengers have been advised not to travel to the airport unless they are able to make a booking on an alternate carrier.

Comair said that it deeply regrets the inconvenience caused and that it is working hard to restore normal operations as soon as possible. Updates will be posted on its social media as soon as they become available.
