Direct flights now available from Johannesburg to Maldives Posted by Anita Froneman on 7 March 2022 South Africans can now fly directly from Johannesburg to Malé, Maldives instead of having to stop over in airline home cities like Doha. Priority Escapes is currently the only travel operator offering this eight-hour flight via Air Seychelles, which cannot be booked with the airline by the public. The travel operator also offers travel insurance that covers a total refund for any cancellation, up to seven days before departure for R1,500 (per adult, per reservation). The Maldives briefly closed its borders to several countries on 27 November 2021, but has reopened for tourists again on 29 December. Vaccination is not required to enter, only negative PCR tests no older than 96 hours are required upon arrival. Children below the age of one year are exempted.
