Katchie Nzama is chasing the best beer in Africa Posted by Anita Froneman on 11 March 2022 You might have seen her at your local beer brewery. The woman with the blue hair (or pink, or purple, or black, depending on her mood) and the warm smile. Katchie Nzama travels all over the continent, pursuing one of her great interests: beer. ‘When I started travelling across the continent, most African countries only had beer to offer. It became fun to try different beers from different parts of the continent,’ Katchie said. One of her favourites was the Nile Special by Nile Breweries she had while travelling from Entebbe to Bugala Island on the Ssese Islands in Uganda. ‘This perfect, happy, beer sipping moment is also the moment I lost my sandal to Lake Victoria.’ Watch her review Lesotho’s Maluti Premium Lager below: Known online as ‘The Solo Wandera’, Katchie is no stranger to exploring destinations by herself. When asked about her favourite destination, she said she doesn’t have one, but she tends to fall in love with villages next to bodies of water. Katchie hiking Storms River Mouth ‘Sodwana Bay in KZN, Likoma Island in Malawi, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sousse in Tunisia and Lamu in Kenya are some of the most beautiful places on Earth,’ she said. Kaapsehoop in Mpumalanga is another special place for Katchie But she also loves the Northern Cape’s vastness and silence. ‘Mpumalanga’s Lowveld allows me to reconnect with nature and northern KZN allows me to live my best mermaid dreams,’ she added. She is also an avid swimmer and scuba diver. Diving in Sodwana Bay Katchie before doing the gorge swing at Graskop Gorge ‘What is it about solo travel that you love so much?’ I ventured. ‘Freedom!’ was her confident answer. ‘Solo travel comes with the kind of freedom I am yet to experience in any other parts of my life. ‘I have a feeling I threw in enough coins in those potholes as a child. My wish was probably to always travel,’ Katchie said The people I meet along the way inspire me. I love meeting new people and learning how they live. No day is ever the same in the life of an adventure traveller.’ Follow her beer-spired travels on Instagram.
