Craft your own love tale on this Mozambican island Posted by Anita Froneman on 14 February 2022 Ryan Enslin engages in techniques of visualisation, preparing for the opening of love’s playground just 11 kilometres off the coast of Mozambique. I can’t wait to share with you what is brewing in Mozambique’s pristine Primeiras and Segundas Archipelago. A rather special space is in the process of evolving. Imagine a previously uninhabited island in remote North-Eastern Mozambique, complete with white sandy beaches, translucent turquoise seas and a unique, biodiverse marine eco-system. Then imagine standing on the deck of your sea-facing, private pool villa, island cocktail of choice to hand as the balmy sea breeze warms your soul; that someone special reading Eat, Pray, Love on the daybed just to your right. Come December 2022 this needs no longer be an exercise in visualisation for your next holiday, as Africa prepares to welcome the new Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira, Banyan Tree’s second development on the continent. Styled as a luxury private island getaway, the overriding ethos of the development is one of effortless, sustainable luxury with a uniquely Mozambican, yet inherently African, flavour. Each of the 40 villas will have a dedicated villa host to assist in arranging private, intimate dining and personalised romantic interludes, possibly taking the stress out of popping the question. Or ease the strain of planning a wedding. Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira is the ideal location from which to experience the incredible colours of the coral reefs that lay offshore, or indulge in signature Thai and other unique spa treatments. Enticing, sensual Mozambican flavours await you on this soon-to-be island adventure, as you take in the history of Mozambique through unique food and wine. The Ilha Caldeira journey will be one that tantalises all of the senses. The Primeiras and Segundas Archipelago, which will play host to the new Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira, is a chain of ten uninhabited barrier islands and two coral reef complexes. Situated in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Mozambique and near the coastal city of Angoche, the area is fringed with coral reefs and beds of seagrass and is an important habitat for sea turtles and dugongs. The archipelago is currently the focus of joint conservation and development projects by CARE and the World Wildlife Fund, in cooperation with the government of Mozambique and various other local Non-Governmental Organisations. To date, these projects have created 17 000 km2 of Marine Protected Areas. Continued goals include increasing awareness among local people of how their activities affect the larger environment, as well as their long-term security and prosperity. The abiding relationship between love and exotic journeys has long been celebrated by wordsmiths and travellers alike, and soon these uniquely human pursuits will have a place to join in mutual celebration. There has never been a better time to start planning a celebration of your unique love story, with Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira as a backdrop to that magical tale. Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira aims to be open by December 2022. Pictures: Supplied Follow more of Ryan’s adventures in and around Joburg here.
