From December and January, the flight will increase to three flights per week, with flights on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday. According to Travel News, the airline had the majority of its seats booked for its first reinstated flight, with 80% of passengers connecting to Mauritius. Air Austral is the flag carrier of the French region of Réunion, connecting to France and other Indian ocean regions such as Madagascar and Mauritius. There are also two weekly flights between Réunion and Madagascar. Travellers from South Africa will need to acquire a French vaccine pass equivalent by converting their Covid-19 vaccine certificates. These are needed to access restaurants and other tourist activities on the island. The cost of this conversion is approximately R626 and can be done digitally. Alternatively, travellers can complete the process at pharmacies on arrival. More information about the vaccine certificate can be found here. Passengers must also complete the self-declaration form here. Unvaccinated passengers must apply for a travel certificate and must have completed a sworn statement which can be obtained here.
