Picnic paradise at the Vergelegen Wine Estate Posted on 12 November 2021 Both local and international visitors who are searching for scrumptious summer delicacies and fine wines can now indulge in the prestige picnics at the Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West. Eager visitors can once again make bookings to secure their spot at the acclaimed wine estate. The sublime camphor tree forest setting is perfect for summer picnics. The estates’ current promotion will be running until the end of April leaving prospective visitors with plenty of time to book their spot. The famous luxury picnics are presented to guests in wicker baskets and are served on tables that are covered with delicate white tablecloths. The dining tables are shaded by elegant umbrellas and are located in the middle of a tranquil camphor forest. The Hospitality Operations Manager, Sue Steenkamp, at Vergelegen Wine Estate declares that the Camphors and Stables restaurants on the premises source their ingredients from their own farm and from local suppliers. The standard picnic menu caters for a range of different diets such as vegetarian, vegan and children’s options. The standard menu includes a tomato gazpacho amuse bouche, homemade duck liver pâté, roasted pepper and cream cheese, and traditional smoked snoek pâté. The main menu consists of home-cured meats, plus chicken marinated in plum, ginger, spring onion and coriander; bacon, leek and potato quiche; butternut and chickpea salad, cucumber relish and caprese salad. The menu also serves South African cheeses with pear relish and homemade biscuits. The dessert menu consists of a 70% dark chocolate mousse, accompanied by filter coffee. Vergelegen additionally presents its signature wines, to suit all pockets and tastes. The standard menu costs R330/person while the vegetarian and vegan options cost R340/person. The children’s picnic, which is available for three to ten year old’s, costs R125/child. To make a reservation one must secure a booking at least 24 hours in advance. Vergelegen is a not only known for its fabulous wine and cuisine, it is described as a multi-layered destination. When visiting the Veregelegen Wine Estate it is advised that guests spend their time enjoying the farm’s many attractions before settling down to their picnics. Other activities available to guests are wine tastings at the Wine Tasting Centre, an environmental tour, and 18 exquisite gardens adorned with a regal rose garden adjoining to the camphor forest.
