Eastern Cape’s Beervlei Dam gets water for the first time in 20 years Posted by Anita Froneman on 1 November 2021 Beervlei Dam outside Willowmore in the Eastern Cape is filling up after being dry for 20 years. Beervlei is a flood control dam, and receives overflow water from the Groot River, Salt River and Kariega. Whenever the dam receives enough water, the sluices are opened so that the water can be used for irrigation on the surrounding farms, so the dam is never full for long periods of time, but has not had any water at all since 2001. The area has received bountiful rains over the past weeks, and resident Gerhard Greeff shared some incredible video footage of the dam filling up with us.
