Young female pangolin rescued from illegal wildlife trade Posted by Taylah Strauss on 28 October 2021 Thanks to a tip-off from a good Samaritan, another young female pangolin was rescued from illegal wildlife trade and taken to Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital for immediate medical attention. When the pangolin came in, a CT scan revealed severely compromised lung function. This problem was compounded by the complicated aetiology, as these conditions are unfortunately a key characteristic of pangolins kept in captivity by poachers. However, after three weeks of treatment and another CT scan, the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital reported an improvement in her lung function, as well as steady weight gain. Whilst she still has a long way to go, the hospital is cautiously optimistic that she is out of the woods, and on the road to a full recovery.
