This was after SA Weather services issued a warning of severe thunderstorms in the region and predicted localised flooding in much of the Cape. ⚠️Yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in localized flash flooding and short term disruption to essential services are expected over parts of the NC and WC tomorrow (Thursday 21 October 2021). Two strikes were on our mountain, so we packed up and stopped working as I’ve never been that close to a lightning strike before. Where the light and sound are almost at the same time,’ said Calvyn, a local resident who lives between Montagu and Barrydale. ‘No damage luckily, but our swales and dams are fuller than I have ever seen them… and they were empty yesterday!’ Below are scenes of the Keisie River in Montagu. Near Montagu, Pietersfontontein dam’s tributaries were also in full flood as torrents of water flowed towards the dam. Further North, the town of Calvinia in the Northern Cape also received generous rainfall, causing more localised flooding.
