New ‘Braille Rail’ describes view of Victoria Falls for visually impaired

In the spirit of ‘Tourism for Inclusive Growth,’ and in an effort to make Victoria Falls accessible to all, Victoria falls has unveiled its first ‘Braille Rail’ at the lookout cafe, along with Braille menus.

The railing describes the beautiful view of Victoria Falls in Braille as well as the highwire activities on offer, enhancing visually impaired visitor’s experience of this celebrated tourist destination.

In the unveiling of the Braille Rail at Lookout Cafe, Victoria Falls Mayor, Somvelo Dlamani commented that ‘It is groundbreaking that this monument will allow for visually impaired members of our society to enjoy the facilities here, and to feel accommodated in Victoria Falls.’

The railing at a renowned and frequented tourist site is one of the first in Africa, and reflects the innovative efforts made by Zimbabwe to uplift the destination in the nations continued recovery efforts.

The initiative was primarily self-funded by Enock Mawema of Mobi Tech Smith, in working in collaboration with Wild Horizons, there are plans to to set up a trust to develop additional Braille Rails throughout the country to accommodate a more inclusive tourism industry.
