Denmark first EU country to lift all Covid restrictions, including face masks Posted by David Henning on 13 September 2021 Thanks to a high vaccination rate of 80%, Denmark no longer considers Covid-19 to be a ‘socially critical disease’, making it the first EU country to lift all coronavirus restrictions, The Guardian reports. As of Friday 10 September 2021, proof of vaccination was no longer required when entering nightclubs, making it the last Covid-19 restriction to fall. Since 14 August, face-masks were no longer mandatory on public transport and on 1 September, limits on public gatherings and nightclubs were removed. More than 80% of Danes over the age of 12 have been fully vaccinated, leading the government to declare that it no longer considers Covid-19 to be a ‘socially critical’ disease. Søren Riis Paludan, a professor of virology at Aarhus University in Denmark, told The Guardian that ‘We have opened to or but we have also said we can close it if needed.’ Leading up to the easing of restrictions, the Danish Health Minister stated that ‘the epidemic is under control’ but cautiously noted that ‘we are not out of the epidemic’ and the government would act as needed. The wearing of facemasks is still mandatory at airports and people are advised to wear one when seeing a doctor, or at test centres and hospitals as the virus is still considered an ‘ordinary dangerous illness.’ Picture: Unsplash ALSO READ Seychelles opens borders to all South Africans Boris Johnson set on removing UK’s Covid-19 restrictions Related Posts Cape Town’s sustainability: Leading the way in environmental initiatives 1 June 2023 As National Environmental Month commences in South Africa, Cape Town stands proudly at the forefront... read more Kapama to host Safari Guide of the Year Awards 2023 1 June 2023 Kapama Private Game Reserve near Hoedspruit will host this year’s Safari Guide of the Year... read more Blood Lions relaunches for public viewing on YouTube 1 June 2023 Award-winning documentary feature film Blood Lions has been relaunched on YouTube for public viewing, creating... read more PREV ARTICLE NEXT ARTICLE
