A veld fire is raging in parts of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and SANParks members are on-site assisting firefighters in Botswana.

‘We can assure all that there is no immediate danger to our guests and infrastructure at this time,’ SANParks said.

‘Fires are raging out of control and have crossed in parts into the RSA section of the park. The front is more than 50 kms and impossible to fight the fire. Entire parks Rangers and management are now based at Nossob. Polentswa Lodge and Camping site evacuated this morning. It does not look good at all. The response from Botswana has been limited to the immediate area around Mabuasehube,’ photographer Theo Vorster said in a Facebook group.

Genevieve Maasdorp, a SANParks communication officer added: ‘Please note that SANParks Management and staff are on-site where the fire is currently raging and busy assisting Botswana to control the raging fire. We can assure all that there is no need to panic yet and that we currently have everything under control. We will update accordingly if the situation changes.’

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
