SAA to return to the skies on 23 September Posted by Anita Froneman on 27 August 2021 South African Airways has confirmed it will return to the skies on 23 September, and bookings and travel credit redemptions will reopen on 6 September. The embattled airline was grounded for most of the past year, but exited business rescue at the end of April. Credit: Twitter/@FlyingZulu The airline said on Twitter that its initial flights will be between Johannesburg, Cape Town and several other African countries including Accra, Kinshasa, Harare, Lusaka, and Maputo. Interim CEO Thomas Kgokolo said: ‘After months of diligent work, we are delighted that SAA is resuming service and we look forward to welcoming on board our loyal passengers and flying the South African flag. We continue to be a safe carrier and adhering to COVID-19 protocols. ‘The aviation sector is currently going through a testing period, and we are aware of the tough challenges that lie ahead in the coming weeks. We thank South Africa for the support we have received in getting us to where we are today,’ he added.
