His co-accused is Schalk Abraham Steyn, a businessman from Mbombela. Both were out on bail pending a previous court case. The pair will appear on court on Friday, 23 July.

This latest arrest occurred while Groenewald was out on bail after a previous arrest in 2010, along with nine co-accused after 20 rhino carcasses were found buried on his farm. He has been out on bail since then and has evaded trial through what appears to be postponement and evasion tactics.

The horns confiscated during Wednesday’s arrest appear to have the prescribed rhino horn identification numbers removed, journalist Simon Bloch said on Twitter. These identification numbers are required by law.

Groenwald, a Limpopo game farmer notorious for his alleged involvement in rhino poaching over the years, is said to have hosted international visitors to hunt rhinos on his farm in Musina, reports Daily Maverick.
