Betway is helping Africa’s communities get back on their feet Posted on 19 May 2021 Tags:Betway, News Betway has launched initiatives to help communities across Africa get through the pandemic’s effects as most people in developing countries have been left to depend on well-wishers. Since the coronavirus became a major global problem early last year, several industries have been adversely affected by the restrictions imposed around the world. These measures were imposed by governments worldwide to help curb the spread of the disease, although that negatively affected the economy. The activities that Betway is undertaking to cushion people across Africa include donating food in Uganda. The company donated around 300kgs of rice to Uganda’s sports journalists under the Sports Press Association. In a statement delivered by Betway’s country manager Adellah Agaba, this betting company is dedicated to ensuring that the communities they work with are safe with all the necessities. This donation comes as part of the 3.3 tons of rice that Betway contributed to Uganda’s Covid-19 task force. Betway has also reached out to the teams it sponsors in Uganda to ensure they’ve got their basic needs in check during these tough times. The major sports sponsor is also helping South Africans get through the pandemic through Betway SA. The online betting company donated two million rands through local charity organizations. Afrika Tikkun is a Jewish charity organization that has been a beneficiary of these funds. While the leading online betting company was also affected by sports suspension, Betway is helping its communities in Africa during the covid-19 fight. The company has also done some charity work in Kenya through their “Betway Cares Initiative,” giving care packages to vulnerable communities to cushion them from the pandemic’s effects. Like in all the cases, Betway reaches out to communities through local organizations that better understand the demographic and geography. These organizations help them to distribute food and other personal protective equipment through door-to-door operations. The priority is given to the most vulnerable communities in any region. In Ghana, Betway delivered a 500,000 GHC cheque to the country’s COVID Trust Fund. Betway is an established sports betting company in Ghana, and during the time of the cheque presentation, the country was still in lockdown. Fortunately, their cash donation went a long way to help the task force reach out to vulnerable people in the community. Besides monetary support, Betway is also sensitising its followers on ways to stay safe through their social media accounts. The major sports sponsor is also officially sponsoring several soccer teams in Ghana. These are just a few examples of Betway’s work in Africa. The company has also joined hands with other initiatives to unite the world against the pandemic. However, the company is mainly helping communities in countries where they’re allowed to operate. Betway also follows up to ensure the players on the teams they sponsor are well supported, and it’s upon the communities being supported to compliment this type of gesture by washing hands, wearing your mask, keeping social distance, and stay safe.
