Overberg’s Klein River breaches naturally

Posted by Anita Froneman on 8 May 2021

The Klein River Lagoon in the Overberg has breached into the ocean. This is great news, as there are multiple ecological benefits of this phenomenon. This will clean the river, creating a fresh environment for the ecosystem to thrive in.

“It took 5 years for the river to breach naturally last year. So it needed another good rinse like this to make it pristine again and safe for swimming and kayaking,” wrote Stanford Hotel on Instagram.

The area has received heavy rain over the past few days and the river has flooded, resulting in damage to homes and properties in the surrounding areas, particularly Struisbaai.
