WWF South Africa launches Virtual Earth Hour event Posted on 26 March 2021 Earth Hour, the largest global grassroots movement for the environment, will bring together millions of people, businesses and leaders from around the world who will shine a spotlight on the urgent need to address nature loss and climate change. “The Earth Hour movement has been celebrated in South Africa and the world for more than a decade,” said CEO of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) South Africa, Dr Morné du Plessis. He added that the movement is calling on all supporters to shine a spotlight on some of the most pressing environmental issues of the day by signing up as ‘nature heroes’ for the hour. Celebrated virtually on Saturday 27 March at 8.30pm, millions of people around the world are being asked to use their social media platforms during Earth Hour to help spread the word to the rest of the world. On the night of Earth Hour, WWF South Africa will share a special Earth Hour 2021 campaign video narrated by the multi-award-winning actor and playwright Dr John Kani and encourage participants to share the video on their social media platforms. The Earth Hour 2021 theme focuses on ‘Climate Change to Save Earth’. Key political decisions will be taken by the world leaders on nature, climate change and sustainable development which will set the course of our future. The decisions made during Earth Hour will affect the health of our planet and our own future for decades to come.
