Crocodile catches waves at St Lucia beach

A Nile crocodile was spotted in the waves of the beach in St Lucia, 1km from the estuary mouth. This is the third unusual incident where a wild animal has been sighted outside of its usual habitat.

First, a hippo was seen roaming Fourways in Johannesburg, then a crocodile made a splash in a North West swimming pool.

‘Spotted this beauty on the beach in St Lucia. Quite surprising to see a big Nile crocodile like this about 1 km away from the estuary mouth. Not your everyday sighting for sure,’ said resident Annelies Masschelein who posted a video on Facebook.

The crocodile is believed to have moved from the estuary and Masschelein said she had never seen anything like this in her life.

Comments poured in, with many expressing their disbelief at the rare sighting while others cracked jokes.

‘You went swimming there, remember Rob?’ One user commented and tagged his mate. The reply: ‘Yeah, I had to keep those animals under control and now that I’m not there, they’re taking over!’

‘Imagine paddling out – never mind the sharks,’ another added.

Take a look at the sighting below:
