All aboard the Blue Train Posted on 3 February 2021 The iconic Blue Train has resumed operations, which were suspended in December 2020 as South Africa faced a second wave of COVID-19 infections. The schedule is back on track for 2021. ‘We’ve adjusted elements of The Blue Train Experience to ensure that travel in a COVID-era does not compromise our award-winning offering,’ said the company on Facebook. The Blue Train suspended operations in December 2020 as South Africa faced a second wave of COVID-19 infections. Adjustments have been made to the schedule to meet demands. Full operations will resume this month. Blue Train operations manager Lekhetho Mokoena said: ‘Running a tourism establishment while the world is dealing with a pandemic requires ongoing adaptation to ensure the safety of our guests and our crew. ‘We are happy that, as the year begins, we are back on track offering the best of African luxury rail experience. Our teams have continued to work on our operations, prioritising the health and safety of guests and crew, and where possible doing refurbishments to the train sets.’ Additional trips will be added to the annual itinerary for the Pretoria to Cape Town route, offering guests added flexibility when deciding on a date. The updated schedule is available at www.bluetrain.co.za. Guests affected by the temporary suspension in December can still arrange for postponements. The COVID-relevant cancellation policy continues to apply, giving guests more flexibility at no extra cost.
