Joburg resident holidays in sinkhole Posted by Anita Froneman on 6 January 2021 Beaches across the country in all but the Northern Cape are closed, but that didn’t stop a Johannesburg resident from dusting off the snorkel and going for a dive. The resident, going only by the nickname ‘Sinkhole Teacher’, filmed himself having a blast in a sinkhole filled with water in Fourways. Complete with Speedo, flippers and a large pink inflatable flamingo, he made a parody of the popular documentary My Octopus Teacher. ‘The idea is really to make light and fun of a dire situation; bringing the spotlight onto Joburg’s failing infrastructure that is as old as 40 years and hasn’t been maintained properly in over 20 years old,’ he told Good Things Guy. Locals could not believe their eyes and commented on the hilarious situation. ‘South Africans always find the funniest side of really serious situations,’ a Twitter user commented. ‘With a tub of chlorine to the ready, he’s made his own South African Riviera!’ another said on Facebook.
