The Orange River has flooded

The mighty Orange River has flooded following heavy rains across the country.

‘Few sights are as awesome or a sound as deafening as water thundering down the natural wonder that is Augrabies Waterfall when the Orange River is in full flood. Augrabies Falls National Park is calling,’ said SANParks on Twitter. 

The Orange River is the longest river in South Africa and the Orange River Basin extends extensively from Lesotho into South Africa and Namibia.

The Augrabies National Park in the Northern Cape was established in 1966 and covers an area of 820 km². According to, Experience Northern Cape, the waterfall is about 60 metres high the gorge below the falls averages about 240 m deep, running for 18 kilometres.
