New nature trail connects New York and Canada Posted by Anita Froneman on 5 November 2020 The new Empire State Trail spans 1,207 km in a three-way journey from New York City to the Canadian border and from Lake Erie to the Capital District. This multi-activity trail is open for cyclists, hikers and campers with a multitude of attractions along the way such as the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, wineries, breweries, horse riding and even winter activities like cross-country skiing. It consists of the three sections named the Hudson Valley Greenway, which starts in Battery Park in Manhattan; the Erie Canalway Trail, which runs between Buffalo and the Capital District around Albany; and the Champlain Valley Trail, between the Capital District and Canada. ‘Although most of the Empire State Trail route is off-road trail, some sections are designated on the shoulders of public roadways. The on-road sections, which are identified on the trail maps on this website, are intended for visitors comfortable walking or bicycling adjacent to motor vehicle traffic,’ the website reads. The trail is expected to drive tourism in the state of New York and will afford visitors ‘unprecedented access to New York’s outdoor treasures, driving tourism and economic activity to communities across the state and helping to protect our environmental resources for generations to come,’ Governor Andrew Cuomo said in 2017 when the project was launched. Marcy Dam is one of my favorite locations, no matter the season. In the summer it is blooming with life, in the fall the colors are breathtaking, and in the winter it transforms into a mystical winter wonderland.” Thank you, Lindsey for sharing your #NYTrailTales adventure!! 👍🏼❄️ #empirestatetrail A post shared by Parks & Trails New York (@parkstrailsny) on Feb 9, 2017 at 7:48am PST View this post on Instagram #empirestatetrail #eriecanal #clintonsditch #eriebargecanal #canalwaytrail #wny #wnyscenery #wnyphotographer #wnyphotography #716 #landscape_collection #landscape_lover #landscape_lovers #landscapephotography #landscape #landscapelovers #landscapes A post shared by Chuck Maley (@chuck_maley) on Jun 5, 2020 at 6:23am PDT Picture: Facebook/Empire State Trail Related Posts 12 sensational Western Cape campsites 30 May 2023 Love camping?
