Travellers to Mozambique with a negative PCR test will be exempt from undergoing a quarantine period when entering the country.

A PCR test needs to be taken within 72 hours before arrival.

The previous regulations stipulated that all visitors must undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine.

Anyone who tests positive, or who has been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, will be required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days.

Anyone who does not present a negative COVID-19 test will need to self-isolate for 14 days. Children under 11 are exempt from the test requirement.

South Africans do not need to obtain a visa for leisure travel to Mozambique and may visit the country visa-free for up to 30 days.

The Mozambican government has declared a national State of Emergency, which will remain in place indefinitely and tourists will need to adhere to the country’s COVID-19 regulations.

Gatherings of more than 20 people are banned and social distancing of 1.5 metres must be observed in all situations.

Most shopping centres, markets, restaurants and cafes remain open. Bars are closed. Beaches are now open to the public, with social distancing measures in place. Wearing face coverings is compulsory in all public spaces.

Mozambique has a total of 13,130 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 10,439 recoveries and 94 deaths as of November 5.
