Teens save stranded duiker from KwaZulu-Natal lagoon Posted by Anita Froneman on 2 November 2020 Two teenage boys from the KwaZulu-Natal south coast were commended after helping the SPCA to save a duiker stuck on a rock ledge on October 29. Dawie de Bruin (16) and Joshua Pelser (17) were on the beach when they saw members of the Lower South Coast SPCA trying to rescue a grey duiker who had gotten stuck on the ledge just above the water in the Uvongo lagoon. They asked how they could assist, and then jumped into the water to approach the distressed animal with a net. However, the net proved unsuccessful and the boys lifted the antelope off the ledge and swam with it in their arms to where the SPCA could secure the animal on a paddle boat. It was then checked by a veterinarian, found to be in good health and has been released. The SPCA said they were proud of the boys for their bravery and thanked them for their assistance. ‘A special emergency rescue operation at the Uvongo Falls,’ the SPCA said on Facebook. ‘Two youngsters without hesitation jumped into the Lagoon to the rescue of a grey duiker who was stranded on a rock ledge.’ A special emergency rescue operation at the Uvongo Falls 🙏 Two youngsters without hesitation jumped into the Lagoon to… Posted by Spca Lower South on Thursday, 29 October 2020 Source: The Witness Picture: Facebook/Spca Lower South Related Posts Cape Town’s sustainability: Leading the way in environmental initiatives 1 June 2023 As National Environmental Month commences in South Africa, Cape Town stands proudly at the forefront... read more Kapama to host Safari Guide of the Year Awards 2023 1 June 2023 Kapama Private Game Reserve near Hoedspruit will host this year’s Safari Guide of the Year... read more Blood Lions relaunches for public viewing on YouTube 1 June 2023 Award-winning documentary feature film Blood Lions has been relaunched on YouTube for public viewing, creating... read more PREV ARTICLE NEXT ARTICLE
