Heat wave expected, temperatures soar to 37°C

South Africa is in for a hot few days in the coming week, and a heat wave warning has been issued for certain areas.

‘A Heat Wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in Gauteng from Sunday (October 18) until Tuesday (October 20),’ wrote Storm Report SA on Facebook.

Temperatures will reach 33°C in Gauteng on October 19 and 20 with little to no cloud cover, according to Weather.com.

A heat wave is also expected over the extreme eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the northern and extreme western parts of the Free State, as well as in places of the North West Province from October 16 until at least October 20.

Kimberley is expected to reach a sweltering 37°C on October 19 with partly cloudy conditions. The Free State’s temperatures will also soar to 35°C in the north on October 20, according to Weather Today, and Potchefstroom will reach 35°C on October 19.

Remember to avoid being in the sun around midday, and wear sunscreen and protective clothing when going outside.  Make sure animals have access to shade and enough water.
