Escape from it all as a ‘barefoot bookseller’ in the Maldives Posted on 30 September 2020 A new staffer is required for a pop-up bookshop in the Maldives. The single employer is in charge of manning the library’s blog, running creative writing workshops, curating libraries and of course selling books for six months. The bookshop was set up by Ultimate Library and the luxury five-star Soneva Fushi resort in 2018. Since it opened, the call has been put out for a book enthusiast who will come and encourage reading on this paradise island. ‘The bookshop was created to reflect the stunning natural environment and intelligent luxury that Soneva Fushi provides. While most of us find that holidays are the only opportunity we get to read for pleasure, finding the perfect book that enhances your destination and opens your mind can be a challenge,’ said Ultimate Library. The most recent bookseller Chrissy Ryan told Lonely Planet, ‘I’ve moved 6,000 miles across the planet, left my friends and family behind me and found a whole new community on a small island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I’ve tested my boundaries and re-discovered my sense of self.’ The person chosen to be in charge of this Baa Atoll bookshop will have a month’s training before flying to the island for their placement. Ultimate Library are looking for someone who is obsessed with books and able to interact with a range of guests. Excellent English is a must and the ability to host workshops with guests. There is also room for new ideas and initiatives from the bookseller which haven’t been tried before. Deadline is today, so this is your last chance to get that application in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
