High tea has become a favoured pasttime across the country, and many restaurants offer their own take on this classic treat. Get your fancy on at one of these popular high tea spots across South Africa:

No trip to the Mother City is complete without a trip to the iconic Mount Nelson Hotel. Take a seat in the bright and enchanting lounge, and anticipate an indulgent feast. Live piano music sets the scene while you dine on sumptuous cakes, pastries and sandwiches stacked in tiers, .

You have the option of sitting down for morning, afternoon or evening tea depending on your schedule.

When:  9:30–11:30am, 1–3pm or 6–8:30pm

How much: Morning Tea – R325 per adult, R230 per child,  Evening Tea – R425 per adult, R230 per child.

2. Casa Labia by Ideas Cartel

For a truly grand affair, head on down to the Casa Labia, the former residence of the Count and Countess Natale Labia. The restored monument reopened to the public in 2010 and still boasts an old-world charm and splendour. In September of 2020, Ideas Cartel took over management of this stunning location and you will feel every bit of royalty in the ornate Venetian ballroom, the perfect setting for a period drama. Tuck into sweet treats while savouring the view of the Indian ocean.

3. The Oyster Box in Umhlanga

Inspired by The Oyster Box’s original, architecture with four magnificent tole and ceramic chandeliers purchased from the Savoy Hotel in London, natural sunlight and towering Palms, The Palm Court is the venue for the legendary High Tea each afternoon. It’s also a favourite meeting spot for casual dining.

Enjoy live piano music while feasting on an array of pastries, baked goods and teas from all corners of the world.

When: 2.30pm – 5pm daily

4. High tea at Mantis No. 5 Boutique Art Hotel, Port Elizabeth
